Phasing out DirectAdmin

Our web, email, and cloud hosting arm Moohost Limited is moving from the DirectAdmin platform to SPanel. This means some things will change for most of our customers who are hosted on Moohost’s servers running DirectAdmin.

What are DirectAdmin and SPanel?

DirectAdmin and SPanel are control panels for web and email hosting. They make it easier for our customers with limited technical knowledge to manage most aspects of their hosting affairs by logging in with a username and password.

These control panels are installed on top of base Linux images, such as Ubuntu and Rocky Linux. They modify the operating system by making important packages available to authorised users in a nice and easy-to-use graphical user interface (GUI), preventing users from having to issue commands via a terminal.

Why This Change is Important

Moohost is always looking to introduce products and features that their customers need and want. One of the main reasons they have indicated for this transition is that the SPanel is far easier to use than DirectAdmin, particularly for customers who have very little knowledge of managing web and email hosting.

SPanel also brings a suite of enhanced security features that are critical to protect web and email hosting accounts in today’s world.

When This Change Will Happen

Moohost have informed us that customers who are tied to Bissesar Technologies will start being migrated to their newer, SPanel servers starting 18th October 2024 from 11:55 PM NZDT.

What You Need To Know and Do

If you are hosting your websites and business emails with us, here is what you need to know and do to help with this important transition:

Service Outage

Some websites and emails will be unavailable during the transition, as nameservers will be changed to point to the new Moohost SPanel servers.

To ensure disruption is kept at the minimum, Moohost will migrate users during late night to early hours of the morning.

Passwords May Be Changed

For some older accounts, we may need to change your email passwords before migrating to Moohost’s new SPanel servers. This is because your passwords are never stored on our or Moohost’s servers in plain text, and sometimes decrypting them can cause lockouts, which we cannot risk to ensure this transition is completed.

We will let you know before the migration begins if your passwords will be changed. Once the migration is complete, we will reach out once again to provide you with new temporary passwords and guide you to set your own passwords once again.

You May Need to Reconfigure Your Email Accounts

Because SPanel will use a different records system for MX records, your existing email setup on your devices may not work once the migration is finished.

If this is the case, we will reach out to you and assist you with setting up your email accounts on your devices. Please ensure your alternative email contacts are updated with us prior to the migration commencing to ensure we are able to get in touch with you.

Support Services Will Be Restricted

There is very little we can do to support you while the migration is in progress. For this reason, support will be available, but we will not be able to assist with requests relating to your websites and email accounts during the migration.

Support will resume once the migration is complete.
